by tonykemp 19. May 2010 12:31

MTI is proud to announce the addition of the Centurion ExceLED (Medical Illumination) and the AIM LED (Burton) surgery lights to their product list.

LED lights are the hot item in lighting these days. Why? LED lights produce a whiter and brigher light than traditional halogen lights while using around half of the electric consumption of their halogen counterparts. LEDs bulbs also last 10 to 25 times longer than traditional halogen light bulbs and give off much less heat than halogen bulbs.

Centurion ExceLED

Medical Illumination's Centurion Excel LED (ExceLED) represents the new standard in minor surgery lighting with its green technology LED lights. It features a larger reflector with high efficiency at a very low heat, a larger pattern, and long life LED bulbs. The Centurion ExceLED includes the 21st Century Series exclusive Centra arm delivery system.

MTI 440 Series Mobile Quad Battery Powered Procedure Table

by tonykemp 26. April 2010 05:16

For Immediate Release:

Salt Lake City, UT, April 23, 2010

MTI, Inc., a  manufacturer of medical exam and surgery chairs, has released the following information about a new mobile procedure table for use in multiple medical specialties:

Pre-op, Transport, Surgery, and Recovery all on the same Motorized Chair

The 440 Series is available in a 24" (Model 440) or 22" (Model 439) wide procedure table that is ideal for providing a mobile surgery platform in the specialties of Ophthalmology, Plastic Surgery, ENT, Oral Surgery and others, who need to transport a patient from various locations within the clinic for procedures or surgeries. A smart lithium-ion battery powers the 440 without the need for connection to an electrical outlet for true operational mobility and allows you to use one chair without moving the patient which reduces patient handling and the possibility of patient or healthcare personnel injury. However, in c ase of a battery emergency, there is a standard power cord which can be used for uninterrupted operation. The multi-directional casters system provides co mplete mobility with a 3/4” (1.9 cm) base to floor clearance.

Reduce Healthcare Personnel Injury

The Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that healthcare workers occupy six of the top ten occupations at highest risk for back injuries. John T. Bielecki, MD, MPH says that hospitals lead all industries for lost day cases of back pain, and the inciting event for most back injury is patient transfer (John T. Bielecki, MD, MPH. Occupational Health Tracker: Journal of Trends & Strategies for Occupational Health Professionals, Volume 5, Number 2, Summer 2002).

Because the 440 is powered by a smart lithium-ion battery, it has no need for connection to an electrical outlet which gives it true operational mobility. This allows the doctor or other healthcare personnel to use one chair without moving the patient, thus reducing patient handling and subsequently reducing the possibility of patient or healthcare personnel injury.

Tax Incentives to Purchase New MTI Equipment

by tonykemp 20. April 2010 10:08

The US government has two tax incentives to purchase new equipment.

  1. Section 44 ADA Tax Credit
  2. Section 179 Accelerated Depreciation

What is Section 44 ADA Tax Credit?

A disabled access credit may be available to medical practices that have purchased MTI power table(s)/chair(s), because they enable such practices to facilitate access by disabled individuals. The credit is half the purchase price of the product up to $5000 with a $250 deductible.

Click here to download a handout that explains the ADA Section 44 Tax Credit and Section 179 Accelerated Depreciation.  This handout will also calculate an estimated cost of your MTI chair or table by using these two tax benefits.

What requirements does a practice need to meet in order to use the ADA Section 44 Tax Credit?

To qualify, the practice must meet at least one of the following qualifications:

  1. Annual gross receipts of the practice do not exceed $1,000,000.
  2. The practice employs no more than 30 full-time employees during the taxable year before the taxable year in which the credit is elected.

What is the Section 179 Deduction?

Section 179 of the IRS tax code allows businesses to deduct the full purchase price of qualifying equipment, including MTI's cabinetry, purchased or financed during the tax year in which they put the purchased equipment in to use. This means when you buy (or lease) a piece of qualifying equipment, you can deduct the ENTIRE purchase price from your gross income up to the stated IRS limitations.
